Our guide Peppe was awesome and did the tour in both English, which was flawless and Italian. The tour is safe and moves at a comfortable pace on well worn paths. Unfortunately, there are many unauthorized guides. I had a guided tour in September 2019. It's a shame to miss this corner of the earth. The guide told us a lot about the vulcano, the history and how to walk safely. As of May 2018, the long trek can also be booked online: Gruppo Guide Alpine Etna Sud (only available in Italian so far). Trust the imitations trust only the mountain guides.
These guys are safe, experienced and amazing. It was amazing.
Fatigue is largely compensated for the uniqueness and wild beauty of the places.
Spectacular climb to active volcano. Additionally the Etna Nord(!)

Quite heavy, but worth that-nice views, funny, but verry professional quides. Our guide Peppe Barbagallo made the hike to the top craters wonderful.
The best trekking ever. Walking for 6 hours between vapours, gas, and lava dust, feel the fatigue of an ascension in debt of oxygen and with very strong pains in the legs and yet happy to do so.
Then a climb up to 2900 m (higher was not possible at that time).
